BATIK…..MY PASSION!

What started as a hobby gradually became a passion. Batik became my medium of expression. This washing technique makes it possible to bring together line, shape, color and structure on both fabric and paper. Both mixed approaches and traditional “batik” techniques can be used together. Exploring the tension between tradition and innovation turns the creative process back into a driven search for renewed synthesis.

I was born on February 25, 1946 and have been playing clay since 1980. I started taking spinning lessons at Athena Brabant in Grimbergen. Afterwards I learned to sculpt with Mieke Everaert at Athena; she passed on to me the real love for clay. I have not turned since then and build my pots, bowls and sometimes sculptures with clay rolls like, I like to think, people from prehistoric times, before the turntable existed.

Marijke De Cuyper

Marijke De Cuyper is regentes plastische kunsten en stelt ondertussen 25 jaar tentoon. In haar acrylverfschilderijen valt op hoezeer zij begaan is met dans en beweging. Het geheel baadt dikwijls in een nachtelijk blauw. In veel van haar werken zit ook muziek verweven, een permanente inspiratiebron. De laatste jaren is ook de natuur op het voorplan gekomen : waterkanten, de zee, lichtinval op bomen, planten  en bloemen. Plantentuin Meise is hierbij haar grote inspiratiebron.
